Expert workshops

These workshops are meant to develop technical aspects within the work packages.

Expert roundtable on socio-behavioural factors in risk analysis policy making
As a follow up to the work already performed in different work packages (WP2, WP6) and to the stakeholder consultation on potential socio-behaviour factors influencing the effectiveness of the actual risk analysis procedure, an expert roundtable will take place in on the 7th of April 2014, at the OPERA Research Centre offices in Brussels. The objective of this expert consultation is to discuss the principles and socio-behavioural factors that need to be taken into account in the processes of risk analysis policy making, in order to produce a better estimate and more effective response to the risks associated with the use of chemicals. We would like to explore how factors like people's knowledge, thoughts and behaviours regarding risks interplay and may impact on the whole risk analysis process, throughout all the phases of risk assessment, risk management and risk communication. This is meant to make a contribution to improving the qualitative component of the risk assessment process in future risk analysis policy frameworks.

Heroic consultation workshop on expert elicitation in Chatou, France, on October 1-2, 2013
To assess how human and environmental exposure assessments can benefit from each other, the HEROIC Consortium organized an expert workshop to analyse expert decision rules and to identify recommendations for improving the robustness of WoE approaches in decision making processes. The general objective was to test integration frameworks based on concrete case studies for early Proof of Consistency (PoC). As a follow up to the workshop recommendations for a more transparent, structured and robust framework to integrate various sources of information for hazard and risk assessment will be drafted.
All participants are grateful to P. Ciffroy for the hospitality and organisation of the meeting. For more info please contact P.Ciffroyphilippe.ciffroy@edf.fr

Heroic expert workshop on extrapolation on Hazard Assessment November 7-8, 2013, at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany

An expert workshop was organized to explore and evaluate approaches to extrapolate the hazard assessment of chemical substances across environmental and human endpoints as well as within environmental toxicology across different species, aiming at the systematic exploitation of toxicological information between different species and endpoints as well as for mixtures.

First expert meeting in Paris
The first expert meeting was organized by INERIS in Paris in April. Held at INERIS, Verneuil-en-Halatte, France, April 12th-13th, 2012, which convened 60 experts from public institutes, academia and business sectors. Consolidation and refinement of SWOT analysis initial evaluation on weaknesses/gaps in the current risk assessment process was achieved.
